They have pledged support to businesses by providing financial incentives to employers offering meaningful work opportunities, traineeships and apprenticeships.
Over the next six months, employers who create new apprenticeship opportunities for 16-24 year olds will receive a £2,000 incentive per apprentice. For Apprentices age 25 and over, there will be a payment of £1,500.
What is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are real jobs.
Apprenticeships are a work-based programme with a skills development plan and assessments. It combines hands-on work with recognised training. Employers can hire a new employee as an Apprentice or grow talent with current employees.
Apprentices normally work a minimum of 30 hours a week, 20% of the apprentice’s time will be spent completing off-the-job training (usually one day a week) at a College, University, Training Provider, or on-site. They have the same rights as all employees so are paid, get sick pay, and annual leave.
Apprentices will be working towards qualifications from level 2 -7 (education equivalent – GCSE to master’s degree).
Apprenticeships must last one year but can be up to 5 years for some qualifications.

What is a Traineeship?
Traineeships are an ideal opportunity for your workforce to get to know potential employees before committing to employment offers. Traineeships provide classroom-based lessons in maths, English, and CV writing, as well as up to 90 hours of unpaid work experience.
You can support a Traineeship for a person aged 16 to 24, they will be motivated to get a job or an Apprenticeship but lack the skills and experience that employers are looking for at this level.
A Traineeship normally last between 6 weeks and 6 months
